Special forces were sent to the Haftani border region in the early hours of Wednesday for Operation Tiger Claw. The aggression campaign targeted 150 alleged positions of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and was comprised of military planes, helicopters, fears, and artillery, Turkey's defence minister has said.
This attack comes after another attack made Monday at midnight, when a bombing campaign targeted 81 PKK installations throughout the region, writes The Guardian, translation Periscopi.
Despite the unprecedented degree of Turkish operations within Iraqi territory, no civilian or fighter has been reportedly killed so far.
The PKK had seized weapons against the Turkish state in the years of 80s to fight for an independent Kurdish nation.
It has since modified the goal of a commitment to Kurdish rights and autonomy. The group is considered a terrorist organisation by Turkey, the EU and the US.
Peace talks between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan and PKK leaders had failed in 2015, intensifying violence there.
Rumors of a major Turkish offensive against The PKK in northern Iraq has been circulated for months. /Periscope
