A second strengthening dose will follow within four weeks.
Human trials for Oxford ChAdOx1 vaccine nCoV-19 (AZD1222) began in April, in which more than 1,000 participants were involved.
Professor Robin Schatock, from the Imperial Infectious Disease Department, which is leading the study, said his team's work is “an important step” towards finding a cure.
We now look forward to quick recruiting in testing so that we can assess both the safety of the vaccine and its ability to produce neutral antibodies”, Schattock said.
Fifteen healthy volunteers are expected to receive the first dose in the coming days as part of the initial phase of testing.
