The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kosovo, in an immediate response to COVIDD-19, delivered today the first 20 University Clinical Centre of Kosovo (X1) employees bought with funds from Norway, Switzerland and Luxembourg. These ventilators will freeze Kosovo's intensive healthcare capacity.

The total contribution from the governments of Norway, Switzerland and Luxembourg for the purchase of mobile ventilators Vg70 is $1.17m, in partnership with the UNDP. This Support U n The NDP has purchased 40 ventilators, 20 of whom surrendered today, while the rest will surrender by the end of June.

Health Minister Amend Zemaj, who accepted the donation on behalf of the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo (QKUK), stressed the importance of this co-operation.

It is an honor to accept this donation on behalf of the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo. I want to thank the governments of Norway, Switzerland and Luxembourg for funding and the UNDP for buying mobile ventilators that will save lives. We highly appreciate your contribution and support to the health system in Kosovo in managing the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministry of Health is committed to continue with joint projects in the future, after we overcome the” crisis.

Minister Zemaj said there is no better gift for Kosovo citizens on freedom day than an important assistance to patients.

SKKUK Director Basri Sejdiu argued that this assistance at this time cannot be measured with money. “I thank the ambassadors is a special honor to receive a donation when we need it. Ventilators are 20 today and 20 coming tomorrow for everyone in need. The value is great when it's dedicated at this time, we can't measure this aid by money”, Sejdiu said.

Maria Sukokko, UNDP's permanent representative, said UNDP stands with Kosovo citizens and institutions and international partners in the fight against COVID-19 and respond to influences caused by pandemic.

Today's “Donation was made possible through generous contributions from the governments of Norway, Switzerland and Luxembourg, and we are extremely grateful that they collaborated with us in supporting Kosovo in these difficult times. We are committed to supporting Kosovo to build health care capacities in coping with pandemic and beyond”, Suokko said.

Norway's Ambassador Jens Erik Gröndahl stressed that at a very difficult time, which is causing tremendous pressure on public health services, it is necessary to show solidarity and do all we can to help each other and strengthen our joint efforts to overcome pandemic.

Switzerland's Ambassador Jean-Hubert Lebet, meanwhile, argued that, as a long-term partner in Kosovo's social and economic development, Switzerland is happy to stay with Kosovo even in the fight against COVID-19.

U n The NDP has announced that ventilators have been produced in China, certified with the EU certificate, and with the security of quality from the UNDP's Global Procuration Unit in Copenhagen.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, The UNDP in Kosovo, like the UN Team's key agency in Kosovo (UNKT), is supporting Kosovo's citizens and institutions to prepare, to respond in an adequate manner, focusing especially on the most affected.
