Pressed after Kosovo lifted reciprocity: We must please the great

Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, said lifting reciprocity measures creates room for dialogue with Kosovo. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, he said he is awaiting the arrival of the European Union's Special Representative for Dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo, Miroslav Lajcak, in Belgrade and Pristina after the 21st elections....
Vuciq also said he has given up, as he put it, major initiatives for resolving the Kosovo issue and is awaiting the proposal.
This opens up the possibility for us to start negotiations, if that measure remains for more than a few days and I believe it is not a question of persecution and rivalry between the two sides, but a fundamental issue, the issue of free movement of goods, services, people and capital, one of the most important freedoms of the modern world, and I believe it will have a good effect on the economy of Belgrade and Pristina, will have a good effect on people. So not only Serbs, but Albanians, this will create a kind of framework so that our business communities can better co-operate. Of course, this will open the possibility of political dialogue between us”, he said.
He has added that in the final agreement with Kosovo, Serbia must lose the least possible.
Vuciq has said Serbs and Albanians should solve their own problems, adding that he has given up many major initiatives to expect what will be proposed by major powers.
But I am aware that we are all small together and of course there will always be ways in the Balkans to please the greats, much more than to establish better relations with their friends or neighbours. So I've given up some big initiatives and I'm waiting to see what we're proposing. And if you ask me, that's why I said that, what exactly is what I expect. I expect nothing. I don't know what to do. When I say something, it's gonna be, but I don't know what to expect. Nothing concrete”, he said.
He has said Serbia does not have any deadlines on when the final agreement will be reached, but has declared that it wants to ensure peace and stability in the region for decades to come.
According to him, when entered into dialogue, the parties should be ready for compromise.
Every time you talk about red lines, you're not ready for conversation. That doesn't mean they don't exist, but when you start talking about them like the Albanian side says: No, no, we... all of Kosovo is ours, so we'll get Presevo, Bujanocy and Medvedja, a little bit more. I just expect them to say they'll get Kraguyev and Kraleva too. Honestly, smile and go on. When entering a dialogue, enter with confidence and be willing to compromise. If this thing gets possible, we'll see”, he said.
Vuciq claims Serbia's Constitution envisions a single territory, claiming the same includes Kosovo.
Serbia's “Constitution says Serbia is a single territory, including Kosovo Autonomous province and Metohija. Kosovo's constitution speaks of an independent state which 22 EU states have recognised and another 5 have not recognised Kosovo's independence. What do we do now? What is that territory? That's why I've said it's important to talk and understand each other's positions”, he said further.
