A 5.9 magnitude earthquake has hit the eastern province of Bingol, leaving 1 dead and 18 injured so far.
Disaster and Emergency Management Authority said this afternoon at 5:25 an earthquake struck the Karlova district.
Turkish Environment and Urbanisation Minister Murat Kurum said rescue teams have been sent to the region, which are closely following the incident.
A surveillance tower was damaged and three security forces were injured.
Bingol is surrounded by numerous mountains and lakes, while recently it has become a popular tourist destination. / AA/
