Pope Francis has met on Saturday with a group of Italian doctors and nurses who have thanked them for their work during the coronary pandemic.
This is the first audience the Pope holds, since Italy started facilitating measures against Covid-19, the disease that causes the coronary.
“You were one of the support pillars of the entire country”, the Pope told doctors and nurses from the Lombardy region, with whom he met at the Vatican.
You who are here and your colleagues all over the country want to express my gratitude and thanks, and I know that by these words I am expressing the feelings of all”, the Holy Father said.
The pope named them as “angels” health workers, even those workers who enabled patients who were about to die, to call their loved ones, to say goodbye.
Italy, one of the worst hit countries in Europe by Coronavirus, has started easing the measures since 3 June. But keeping distance and masks in public is mandatory.
Almost 35,000 people in Italy have died of the Coronavirus, becoming the fourth state in the world with the largest number of victims, after the United States, Brazil and Brythani.
