The decision, as reported by the President's Office, has been made on the basis of Article 125 and Article 126 of the Constitution of the Republic of Northern Macedonia, after a proposal submitted by the government and lasts eight days, starting in June 15, 2020.
The “Political parties have reached an agreement on holding early parliamentary elections on July 15th 2020. In this regard, the decision to declare a state of emergency is made in order to enable smooth election preparation, and especially implementation of measures to protect public health during the election process, in a pandemic of the choreography declared by the World Health Organisation”, the statement said.
Following the political agreement, President Pendarovski expects the institutions to take all steps to prepare the election process.
In that sense, President Pendarovski expects the days of the state of emergency to be used only to make the decisions and protocols needed to organise and develop elections, with emphasis on measures to protect public health.
President Pendarovski expects early parliamentary elections to be fair, free and democratic, given the country's Euro-Atlantic perspective.
