Until recently, the Nissan factory produced the Mercedes X-and Navarra class, and recently the NV20 electric one.
When it was thought that thousands of jobs in Spanish factories were safe, there was a pandemic and crisis. And in such situations there is no mercy, so Nissan leaves no room for a factory in Barcelona on her business plans for years to come.
Nissan concluded that it was better to close the factory. This will cost them an extraordinary 1.5 billion euros. Currently, there are major debates in Spain, and a growing number of lawyers believe it is cheaper for Nissan to leave the factory, that is, to retain production. The Spanish government agrees, Reuters reports.
Local media report that Nissan told the workers that the closure of three local factories would cost them 1.5 billion euros.
When the factory is closed, Nissan must compensate all workers and suppliers, but also maintain the cost of the factory's disposal. Spanish media say it will take Nissan seven years to cover the cost of closing factories.
Nissan factories in Barcelona have been active since 1983, and currently employ 2,400 workers and an additional 600 in related objects. The factory produces commercial vehicles, such as Navarra and e-NV20 electrical vehicles.
