NATO Sets Emergency Plan for Second Wave of COVID-19

NATO defence ministers agreed today on an emergency plan in the case of a second wave of COVIDD-19, while the military alliance tries to show how it can help during the health crisis.

NATO members will create a common stock of medical equipment and a crisis fund worth millions to spend on critical medical supplies”, the secretary general said. NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, after the two-day talks ended.

NATO's key task in the pandemic is to ensure that this health crisis does not become a security crisis”, he added.

Stoltenberg did not elaborate on the size of the fund or when the reserves would be available, as it was still very early on, but explained that some allies had already begun to pledge and that some contributions would be available very soon. / DPA/
