His party, Fianna Fail and the centre-right party Fine Gael, the two dominant political groups that have emerged from the wings of the 20th-year civil war, would rule together for the first time. The government coalition will be comprised of three parties.
Martin previously served as minister in several ministries, including the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education.
