“Pandemia is a challenge with unprecedented dimensions. EU member states must preserve their domestic market and present a united front in the world”, she said in an interview with daily “Sueddeutsche Zeitung”.
Also, Merkel stressed that the proposed recovery fund, which would increase EU debt and transfer money to countries hit the most by the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis, was a particular response to a particular situation.
