Dr. Anthony Fauci, lead expert on infectious diseases, says vaccine against COVID-19 may be ready by the end of the year, but it is not clear how long its immunity to the body will last.
“We can have a vaccine by the end of this calendar year or in the first months of 2021,”, he said, write foreign media, broadcast news.
“Things are clearly going in the right direction”, he added in an interview at Good Morning America on Wednesday.
Fauci, also director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said it is still not clear how long the vaccine's immunity will last.
Fauci says he hopes vaccines will be ready by the end of the year because development has been promising so far.
