US President Donald Trump described the G7 on Saturday in its current format as a highly outdated <x0 Group of countries” and said he would invite the leaders of Russia, India, Australia and South Korea to a meeting postponed for September, due to the coronary pandemic.
The EU views G7 as a vital multilateral framework, whose US rules, which currently heads a group of more industrialized countries, cannot change forever, an EU spokesman said.
Russia's “G7 takeover has been suspended until Russia changes direction and creates an environment for a key G8 debate. This is not the case at the moment,” he said.
Russia was expelled from G7 after the crime annexed in 2014, the Kosovo Press broadcast.
G7 consists of Great Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States.
Britain and Canada have voiced opposition to the idea of Russia's return to G7.
Moscow has said the Trump proposal for an expanded G7 summit this year has opened a number of questions and that diplomats will seek clarification from Washington.
India, Australia and South Korea have announced that they have received invitations to attend the expanded G7 summit.
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Trump in a telephone conversation, that New Delhi would be happy to work with the US and other countries to secure a successful G7 summit, the Indian Foreign Ministry announced.
Australia's Prime Minister Scott Morrison also accepted Trump's invitation Tuesday.
The prime minister confirmed that he gladly accepted the invitation to attend the G7 meeting, as he did last year, when he was invited to attend by French President Emmanuel Macron”, Prime Minister Morrison's spokesman said.
