Kosovo citizens, of course if they have visas, and those of other Western Balkan countries, would be able to travel to EU countries from July 1st when the European Union's external borders should be opened. This proposal for member states for the opening of borders has been granted today by the European Commission, thus confirming that restrictions on EU entry, set by 15 June, will continue for Western Balkan countries even two weeks but will have to be lifted by 1 July.

The Commission has proposed that for other countries the restrictions continue if necessary and that their removal be according to the epidemiological situation in those countries, based on the testing and monitoring capacities of the infected movement, as well as on mutual grounds whether those countries have limits for the movement of EU citizens, says TIMES correspondent from Brussels.

The commission has proposed that on July 1st restrictions on Kosovo, Albania, northern Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia be lifted, rationalising this recommendation with the epidemiological situation in these countries, as well as the European Commission's desire that they be as involved in implementing the guide for easing the movement's restrictions.

Their epidemiological situation is similar or even better than in the EU”, says the European Commission communiqué, with which the recommendation for lifting the restrictions of foreign citizens' entry into the EU for Western Balkan countries.

In Kosovo's case, the only state from the region worth the visa regime because it does not have their liberalisation is also important to recommend the European Commission to member states that resume even with the procedures for visa giving. These procedures should be developed by increasing the extent of the spread of the virus, and in particular by maintaining distance, avoiding as much physical contacts as possible, encouraging online applications or through mail.

In the event of the apparent increase in cases in any EU state, the possibility of restoring measures to restrict that state's entry into the EU.

The commission gives only recommendations as decisions on lifting restrictions are made by member states.

At the same recommendation, the European Commission has called on all member states to open their internal borders and remove all restrictions on them late in June 15th. All these measures were decided by member states to prevent or slow the spread of the virus.
