Austria's Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has commented on the role of the US over the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, he has said he sees this as a positive contribution to helping solve the conflict, which is holding the two states hostage for so long. Kurz, hopes that within the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, comprehensive agreements can be reached, which is also a precondition for the two countries' membership in the European Union.
In an interview for Telegraph, Chancellor Kurz stressed that the added role of the United States, as a complement of the EU's multi-year commitments, is certainly positive.
That commitment of the US to the process is seen as a positive contribution to helping solve the conflict, which is holding the two states hostage for so long. Speaking of visa liberalisation, he said that since Kosovo has fulfilled all criteria, we were always in favour of granting visa liberalisation, and for this the Austrian government has further a clear commitment to its programme.
“Since Kosovo has met all criteria, we were always in favour of granting visa liberalisation. For this, the Austrian government has further a clear commitment to its programme. Meanwhile, talks are taking place at the European level even further on the issue”, Kurz has indicated.
As for how some leaders from the region explain the talks about the proposal for changing borders between Kosovo and Serbia, Chancellor Kurz, among other things, said in an interview that our <x0/Qisa has always been pragmatic.
If both sides can agree, it cannot be us who prevent the parties from sitting at a table and freezing all the issues, which they consider to be important”.
In the interview, Chancellor Kurz has also talked about co-operation with Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti, as he said the Western Balkans is an important region for Austria and we support the European perspective of all Western Balkan countries.
“I hope that Kosovo will continue to implement all necessary reforms in all areas, in particular in the rule of law, which is of particular importance for a further development on the path towards EU membership. Kosovo can count on Austria's support”, Chancellor Kurz said in the interview.
