Although there was also protest against Mitrovica's chairman, Bahtiri did not hesitate to join her.
One of the protest points asked Mayor Bahtiri: Why didn't you react?
However, this did not prevent Bahtiri from becoming part of the protest that was organized against him.
The nongovernmental organisation “voice”, says there were rumours raised during the protest against Bahtir, where he was asked to leave. However, Bahtiri remained until the end of the protest, ignoring the protest voices.
The protest was organised due to rape cases in the town of Mitrovica, which occurred in recent days.
Through a media communique, this organization noted that these recent events at the time of the pandemic have even more concerned family members about the freedom of women and girls in Mitrovica.
“We as Civil Society Organisation express great concern for recent rape cases in the town of Mitrovica. Through this communique we react to this phenomenon that is unfortunately continuing to occur in the town of Mitrovica. Two cases of rape have been reported over two weeks, and a woman has been physically violated. These events at this time of pandemic become a major concern for family, for the freedom of young women and girls in Mitrovica”, it was said in the communique.
Looking at this extremely disturbing situation, we invite the law enforcement bodies and relevant institutions to take the case as soon as possible and the violators get due punishment. At the same time, we express concern that none of the local institutions so far have reacted to these events. We believe that this phenomenon must be punished by all and that it does not go into silence. Violence should have no place in Mitrovica, and nowhere else in the world”, the communiques say.
