Chairman The PDK's Kadri Wessel, on the occasion of its birth, has commemorated national hero Gjergj Kastriotin kh Skenderbeun.
Wessel called Skenderbeun the main symbol of our nation.
This is Wessel's full post in FB:
615 years ago our national hero, George Kastriot Skenderbeu, was born, who is one of the main symbols of our nation. Gjergj Kastriot also realised the first union of Albanians in the Lezha Testament, setting the cornerstone of Albanian freedom and independent state efforts. Although more than half a millennium has passed, the memory of him continues to be alive and the source of inspiration to our nation and therefore continues to name the boys Kastriot. In this case, I wish the Kastriots the worthy name they bear.
Not only among Albanians, but for centuries even throughout Europe, the figure of Skenderbe has been admired as a symbol of freedom, as the image of a literal hero who was always on his own on the front line and who never hesitated to risk and sacrifice for his ideals, country, and fellow fighters. Skenderbee has also been the source of inspiration for our liberation struggle, for he has testified that when you wage a fair and fair fight, you can succeed in conquering a mighty power despite your struggle with much less force and military means.
Our national hero was born on St. George's Day, so his parents named him too. St. George's Day is celebrated by many of our co-ordinators as a religious holiday, but in some areas of Kosovo as a holiday that symbolizes the end of winter and the coming of the summer season. That's why I even wish him a happy New Year's Day to every Albanian who celebrates it!
