The battle of Kostare took place on April 9, 1999, under operation BARAgjeta, is one of the bloodiest and most heroic of the KLA's war.
Breaking the border between Kosovo and Albania on April 9th of 990) marked not only a moral victory for The KLA, but it opened the way for weapons supply and logistical support for many war zones in the interior of Kosovo. The triumph of fighters from all over Kosovo, united in Brigade 138, whose top was Commander Agim Ramadani, prompted the nearly centenarian wall placed between Kosovo and Albania to collapse. Kostare's battle was one of the most powerful linkes in the inconsistent chain of national history, and as such will always be remembered among Albanians.
On April 9th, 120 members of the Kosovo Liberation Army broke the border and attacked the 53rd border battalion of the 125 Yugoslav Brigade, which was supported by Serbian police, Serbian paramilitaries and Russian mercenaries. Severe fighting lasted all day. Four men were killed by the KLA and wounded 1, while the Serbian Army left 23 people dead.
