According to Europe Press, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will participate in the EU-Western Balkans Summit, which will be held on May 6th. Because of the David-19 pandemic, the summit will be held via videoconferencing. At the May 6th summit, Kosovo is expected to participate.
Spain does not recognise Kosovo, and diplomatic sources near the Spanish government suggest there is no change in position on the territory of the Western Balkans.
Foreign Minister Arancha González Laya said Spain's goal is the same as that of the European Union, to reach a final agreement between Pristina and Belgrade. She also suggested Spain has no intention of staying as an observer in the Western Balkan region.
“If Europe's axis moves east, Spain must also move and should contribute to resolving conflicts where there are conflicts”- González Laya said.
