Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez received parliamentary support for a fifth extension of the state of emergency because of the coronary, but again from a narrow majority even after a heated debate, showing a deep political divide in the country.
177 parliamentary deputies with 350 seats voted in favour of the extension. The state of emergency, which lasts from March 14th, has now continued until June 7th.
416 citizens were infected on Wednesday, so the total reaches 232,555, or 0.18 percent more than the day before. At the same time, 95 patients died, bringing the total of victims from Covid-19 to 27.888.
The country's slow opening and economic uncertainty are raising frustration among residents. Every night in Madrid and other cities, protesters come out on balconys and roads, striking vessels with metal spoons in protest and demanding the government's resignation.
The Central Bank of Spain expects a 12.4 per cent economic downturn this year, as the country depends on tourism and services that have been paralysed for two months, the Kosovas broadcasts.
