Dick Cusstin, spokesman for the US envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Richard Green, told Radio Free Europe that all “s are welcome to contribute with ideas that would help the stability, peace and prosperity of Serbia and Kosovo”.

He made these comments after Russia's ambassador to Serbia, Aleksandar Bocan-Kharchenko, that the final solution for Kosovo should be determined at the UN Security Council, adopting a new resolution that would replace Resolution 1244.

Bocan-Kharchenko spoke on May 9th to the Belgrade Policy newspaper.

Asked about the possibility of Russia's involvement in Kosovo talks, Bocan-Kharchenko has said that “for its association, primarily, is to be invited by Belgrade”.

Commenting on the Russian ambassador's statements, the outgoing Government of Kosovo has said that “Russia aims to return the Kosovo issue to the UN Security Council because it has veto”.

Through spokesperson Progress Kryeziu, she has recalled that Kosovo's independence has been proven by the International Court of Justice.

“After the only UN judicial body formally says Kosovo's declaration of independence did not violate international law, the Security Council and in particular Russia should not contest the opinion of the UN's single judicial instance. Furthermore, the resolution of the KS/1244/99, which after declaring independence and the DjND decision, in a silent form is abroguated”, Kryeziu told Radio Free Europe.

None of the officials in Serbia has commented on the Russian ambassador's statement.

The Balkan Service of Radio Free Europe has asked the Russian Embassy in Belgrade what is behind the Russian diplomat's proposal, but has not received answers.
