Some of the main companies are urging passengers to wear masks in trying to curb the spread of the virus. While 90 per cent of international flights have been cancelled, companies around the world hope to gradually resume operations this month.
From Monday, American Delta makes it mandatory to wear masks at the airport and throughout flight. American Airlines and United also announced that they will request the same for their passengers and crew members.
Airline representatives said the measures are temporary and are aimed at ensuring customer security and peace of mind. Keeping the mask is also suggested by the international air transport association.
But not everyone will follow this example. Qantas said that wearing masks is not required in Australia and that they will be sufficient to implement the social distance rule on airplanes.
Among other measures to be taken are disinfecting more frequent areas at the airport, and reducing the number of passengers on the aircraft.
Citizens are also encouraged to receive packed food and drinks in order to minimize contacts.
