One of the World Health Organisation's leading advisers said the United States' recent decision to ban funds for this organisation is “devastating” and that the US should rethink the move.
Senate Fisseha is clinical professor of gynaecology at Michigan University medical school and legal experts. She said the suspension would have a strong impact on the organisation's ability to fight on issues related to global public health.
“The problem will be more felt by the time of routine services that the organisation offers as immunizations, or the intervention to save life in collaboration with other governments”, Mrs. Senait “The American Voice” told during an interview with Skype.
So this is not good news. Of course, the decision is not final”, she added.
Last year, US funds were about $450m from a $6 billion budget in WHO. President Donald Trump has expressed disappointment at O General Director's statements Teodoros Adhanom, who seemed to absolve China of responsibility over the origin of the Coronavirus and seemed to welcome Beijing's efforts to bring the virus under control.
On April 14th, Mr. Trump ordered the 90-day suspension of funds for O BSH because of what it called “malmanagement and coverage of the spread of Coronavirus”.
The US International Development Agency's interim administrator, John Barsa, said that during this period the US will try to establish relations with other international agencies dealing with health issues.
“The BSH is why we are looking for different partners”, he said during a press conference.
But Mrs. Senait said it's not the time for such an act, as this would be “collapse”. WHO provides global monitoring on the spread of the disease, co-ordinating international response and providing advice and training to health workers.
“This is the moment when the leading role of the United States is extremely critical at the global level”, said Mrs. Senait. “and not only do we expect and hope that the funds will return but rather see an increase of funds to fight the pandemic. We're all together in this” thing.
O The BSH has been criticised for taking the wrong steps since the beginning of the pandemic. On January 14th, the organisation posted on Twitter that Chinese authorities had found no evidence of human transmission of the virus to man.
Which proved to be false. WHO waited until March 11th to declare Coronavirus a global pandemic. But at the time, cases were recorded in 110 different countries. But Mrs. Senai said WHO wants to stay out of politics and maintain a relationship with all countries in order to have access to information. She stressed that earlier, WHO sent a team of international scientists to China to investigate the virus outbreak. Within two weeks of the first public reports on the virus, WHO was able to publicly share the sequences of the virus gene that were used to create diagnostic tools as well as research into a vaccine that fights it.
I think the world is able to do this just because O The BSH can coordinate this response”, said Mrs. Senait. Many countries have bilateral relations. The United States has a relationship with China. But those relationships are extremely political. And what WHO is trying to do is stay away from politics and focus on world public health”.
O Director General The BSH has also been criticised and the fact that it has assessed China's “transparency” in reporting the situation related to the virus at a time many believe Chinese officials have dimmed the true extent of the explosion in the country. Republican House Lawgivers have written a letter accusing O general director The U.S. has supported China's “propagandistic campaign” and have asked him to publicize the entire corruption of the institution he runs with Chinese officials.
