The goal is to establish a safe way to protect people from the deadly virus.
The Commonwealth Industrial and Scientific Research Organisation is using animals to test two potential vaccines, one of Great Britain and the other of the United States.
The cells in the lungs of the skunks have protein on their surfaces, which are very similar to human ones, and it seems that viruses that infect human lungs, affect those of skunks”, says Trevor Drew, director of Australia's animal health lab.
Scientists point out that one test has been done with endern spray and the other with direct injections. There's a major emergency finding a vaccine against COVID-19, which is rapidly spreading around the world and is causing an extremely high balance of casualties.
Some drugs are even being tested in human control. Once scientists find a safe and effective vaccine, the other challenge is how to produce enough to protect the inhabitants of our planet.
Researchers believe that of all projects currently implemented worldwide, one of them will be able to find an effective solution by early next year.
