A new study found that Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, may originate with the combination of bats and pangolins. The findings strengthen the theory that the pangolins can be the moderator for the Sars transmission- CoV-2 in humans.
The study of South China Agricultural University is published in Nature magazine, and it says that pangolin, being the world's most trafficked mammal, could be a future threat to public health if wildlife trade is not controlled as they carry viruses similar to Sars-CoV-2.
Researchers say that an isolated coronary from Malaysia's pangolin was made of amino acids nearly 100 percent the same as the new coronavirus, respectively, with four genes E, M, N, and S.
Especially in terms of amino acid virus pangolin- CoV is identical to SARS-CoV-2, with only a non-subservative change,” said in the study.
For this study, the team used lung tissue from four Chinese pangolines and 25 Malaysian pangolines to a wildlife rescue centre during March-August 2019.
ARN out of 17 out of 25 Malaysian pangolins was found to be positive for Sars- CoV-2 and they gradually showed signs of respiratory disease, including panting and passive. 14 out of a total of 17 pangolin died later.
“The isolation of a choreography such as SARS-CoV-2 at the pangolins suggests they have the potential to act as intermediate carrier”, the study further says.
The study recommends a long-term monitoring of the coronary in the pangolines and a complete ban on their illegal trade and strict regulation against their meat consumption.
It's interesting that Sar's genome - The CoV-2 is 96% similar to the coronavirus of the bats RaTG13, but it changes to the receptor's link, which means that RaTG13 cannot directly infect the human lungs, but the naked virus passed on to the Malaysian pangolin and was re-combined to the pangoline, including the region associated with pangolin's coronary receptors, and then evolved to Sars - CoV-2 that causes Covid-19 to people, ” said Rohit Chakravarty from the Leibniz Institute in Berlin.
Pangolins and bats are both animals, eating insects. Pangolines are trafficked because their blood is believed to have medical properties, and their meat is considered a delicate one in some parts of Southeast Asia.
