It is estimated that about 10 percent of the children in Kosovo have not had access to remote learning.
So says education expert Dukagjin Pupovci. He says that figure has emerged according to some research and is mainly part of marginalised society groups.
He in an interview with Online Economy says that although children have long been away from school, distance learning has managed not to create emptiness but not in all environments.
“Fortunately, it hasn't been completely empty. We have had the distance lesson that much of this emptiness has fulfilled, not in all environments the same should be made clear. There are families that have three or four children and only one computer, and they can't enter the zoo at the same time. Such families certainly have consequences. They have no access to technology at all. It is estimated that around 10 % of the students in Kosovo from marginalised groups have not participated in remote learning according to some research that has been done”, he told EO.
In such situations, he has opportunities and meaning to compensate for teaching.
There is a possibility and meaning to organize a form and call it the offset lesson in June or July. But if you see the possibility of starting the school year earlier it can't be done either because there's no space. Then you should be known what they learned by March 11th has shut down school”, he added.
Pupovci estimates that once the flow of pandemic is clarified, it needs to analyze how it should be continued.
I think once the flow of pandemic is clarified, the Ministry of Education should sit down with the Institute and try to predict the development of events as I say over a period of one year. If it is suspected that there might be a new wave of pandemic, perhaps better, to start early in the school year, to begin in early August. It is still not clear whether people will have to go on vacation, whether borders will be opened, then a large number of citizens are so economically damaged that it will be difficult to go on vacation.
These modes must be considered”, he added.
According to him, compensation for learning can be made for children who have not been able to follow a long - term lesson.
“Compension may need children who have not been able to follow the teaching at a distance. Because those who have followed the lesson at a distance and repeated things that have been taught through distant learning do not seem very effective”, it is expressed.
Pupovci estimates that we have learned lessons from this time. According to him, many people have had doubts about the use of technology by teachers. He said it showed that the teacher can use technology.
“The quality of education in Kosovo is fragile even in the normal situation, and when you have a fragile quality it does not mean that a brief break hurts so much. In the case of Kosovo this should be seen as a good opportunity because people in us have put too much doubt on preparing our schools, our teachers about using technology. It was seen that at the moment there was no other choice that our teachers are not using technology. They found all the programs for a very short time and used them. I think that's a priority. Students if they lost their regular school education have benefited from independence because in these three months they have learned to approach the problem more independently. Along with these weaknesses, we have some elements that we can call strengths, and these must be exploited. Even if learning begins in the most normal way possible in September, let's say there's no more pandemic, I think our schools don't need to give up using technology”, he said.
After the pandemic, according to Pupovtz, it would be good to become a combination between virtual learning and when the student is present in class.
Now students are used to handing over duties through email, continuing this practice. Let's not tell the old lady that I should be worried about my teacher during the hour. It can be done in situations like winter often stops learning because of snow, so we don't need to stop because we've learned and organized those hours at a distance because the culture of the remote learning organism has been created, our teachers now know how to do video if there is a need. Now he's got a video of me because he made it to August. The number of videos has also been produced in Albania, and these can be exploited in a weather crisis. So I just think that from this period there are benefits that should be exploited”, he said.
