In most of Eastern Europe and Asia, the virus seems to have faded, but the rest of the world is still fighting its first wave.
WHO Emigence Program chief Mike Ryan said the virus is now spreading to parts of Latin America, South Asia and Africa.
Ryan said pandemics often occur in waves, which means that areas where the first wave is silent can be hit again this year.
There is also the possibility that the level of infections will increase if measures to stem the first wave are eased very quickly, Ryan warned.
Coronavirus has infected some 5.5 million people worldwide and has killed over 346,000.
The United States has the largest number of infected and victims -- over 1.6 million, over 99,000, respectively.
The most hit states in Europe are the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and France.
