In countries hit by the conflict, where health systems have already collapsed, the worst “has yet to come in as the choreography continues to spread, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned on Friday (April 3rd), repeating his call for a global ceasefire to stop and pandemic COVID-19.
In March, Guterres called for a global ceasefire in conflict areas of the world, calling on warring parties worldwide to lower their weapons in order to protect vulnerable civilians from the danger of the coronary pandemic.
“in some conflicts, fighting has not stopped, they have deteriorated”, Guterres told reporters while repeating his call.
The United Nations has tried to mediate the outcome of conflicts in countries including Syria, Yemen and Libya, while also offering humanitarian aid to millions of civilians.
