Assistants of President Donald Trump are debating several potentially close moves to punish the World Health Organisation in the course of the coronary pandemic, including cutting off US funds and trying to create an alternative institution.
Officials have begun drafting a letter that if the decision is made, the decision will issue a suspension of US funds for WHO and a linked body, the Pan Health American Association, according to a well-known person, quoted Politico.eu. The document also tells State Department officials, the US Agency for International Development and other institutions to try to transfer money to existing alternative organisations.
Trump said on Friday he would talk about WHO next week, hinting that his administration would decide on its funding for the global health body. But he didn't go into detail on Friday, instead started with a lot of complaints about how O. BSH allegedly is very close to Beijing, despite the fact that the US is its largest donor.
“>As you know, we give them approximately $500m a year”, he said, “and we'll talk about this topic next week. We'll have a lot to say about him. We're gonna keep that thing”.
For now, some US officials are paying attention, saying it will be more productive to try to reform the UN body through existing legal and political mechanisms. Some are worried about O minim After responding to a still-opened pandemic that has killed more than 100,000 people so far. Any attempt to give up US funds from O The BSH will likely face a harsh international response, including by several US allies, and can strengthen China's influence on the organisation.
Interior administration discussion comes after Trump and his supporters label it O BSH is partly responsible for spreading COVID-19 disease. The President accused O If it's very “centred by China”, while some republican lawmakers have called for the removal of the organisation's leader.
A spokesperson for O The BSH said the organisation had no comment on these situations.
