Fauci estimated that the US is testing about 1.5 million to 2 million people per week and that in the coming weeks this figure should double.
He pointed out that he was referring to the diagnostic testing of Coronavirus, not to test antibodies. He also said the test is important, but that identification, isolation and the search for contacts are necessary, broadcast CNN.
Fauci and US President Donald Trump disagree over the country's capacities to test the coronavirus in the middle of a pandemic.
“We absolutely have to significantly increase, not only the number of tests, but also the ability to realise them”, Fauci said in an interview Thursday, and Trump responded to him on the same day that it disagrees with his opinion, as America is doing “a brilliant job”.
Otherwise, the United States should be able to run millions of tests each week before anti - coronary measures are removed.
So far, the US has conducted about four million tests for coronarys, and government officials report a continuing lack of materials needed for testing.
