Habre, who led Chad from 1982 to 1990, was convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity in a trial supported by the African Union in the capital, Senegalez Dakar in 2016.
An investigative commission concluded that 40,000 people were killed by his regime.
After his fall, Habre fled to Senegal and for more than 20 years lived in a suburb of Dakar, with his wife and children.
Called “Pinochhet of Africa”, Habre was finally arrested in 2013 and tried by a special court founded by the African Union under agreement with Senegal. He was sentenced to life in prison.
