The Pentagon has no information to suggest that Kim Jong Un has lost control of North Korea's nuclear programme, said a senior American military official today when he was asked about rumors about the health problems of the north-korean leader.
“I began with the principle that Kim Jong Un remains fully under control of the North Korean nuclear force and its armed forces,” Deputy Chief of Staff General John Hayten said at a press conference.
He said he knew nothing more of what the media wrote and that according to intelligence information he had nothing to confirm or deny anything.
North Korea marked the 108th anniversary of the birth of the country's founder, Kim Il Sung, the grandfather of the current leader, on 15 April. It is by far the most important political date in North Korea, but Kim Jong Un has not been seen in any official photograph.
A North Korean daily says North Korean leader operated in April on cardiovascular problems and is recovering in a villa in the northern province of Fjongan.
The White House has also remained alert to this information. President Donald Trump wished Kim Jong Un good luck, stressing that rumors of his potential health problems had not been confirmed.
Local South Korean authorities have downplayed information. A senior official under anonymous conditions said it was not true that Kim Jong Un was seriously ill, the Jonhap news agency reported.
