A senior envoy of the World Health Organization warned on Sunday that Coronavirus will be a virus that will persecute the human race for a very long time.
On the NBC's “programme, Dr. David Nabarro offered a disturbing thought of what the experiences of the Southern Hemisphere with viruses can teach us about the period of Covid-19.
We think there's going to be a virus that's going to haunt the human race for quite a long time, until we can all have a vaccine that will protect us, and that there will be minor explosions that will appear in a sporadic way and they will overcome our defence”, he said.
Nabarro was also asked about Donald Trump's criticism of WHO and his threat this week to withdraw US funds from the international health care body:
The World Health Organization actually works on behalf of all governments in the world. And it works within the mandates given to him. And we have to rely on information received from different governments. This allows us to process what's happening... but we know there's going to be a lot of things that have been discovered that maybe not been done, as well as they could have been done. And we're predicting there'll be a lot of tests later. Right now, we have to move on. We must have the best possible cooperation. I've heard they're discussing with the head of the FDA some of the challenges, things we're learning about this virus all the time. That's why we need a strong WHO, a trusted WHO. And we hope that all leaders will continue to work with us that way”, he said.
“Chuck Todd of the Press” asked him that given that the U.S. “are somewhere where roughly 15% to 20% of your annual budget ... how devastating would it be if the United States withdraws its funds?”
Well, you know, we're right in the middle of this massive epic battle. Every single human being in the world is affected by this. Business is really in trouble. The communities are anxious. I really hope that all nations will find no reason to make threats or other such things that will harm our ability to unite all the best knowledge we can find. And of course we want our partnership with the United States. We've been working with United States scientists for years... and it would be so sad if something happened to reduce that cooperation. I know that Tedros [Adhanom Ghebrreesus], the director general, has had direct discussions with the US president. And he really believes you trust him when you hear from the President who has respect for O BSH. And hopefully this will continue. Now is a very important time to have something to disrupt the functioning of the international system”, he's done.
