Since a month ago, Periscope by means of an article entitled “Bundsteel in Karantina? The American soldiers were in the village of the Year affected by the Coronavirus” had warned of the potential danger posed by some American soldiers stationed at Bondsteel. Bondsteel's American base has already been confirmed as the origin of several infections, mainly in the Ferizaj municipality.
The first case from our community that changed lives worked on a Randsteel. Now we have two groups of infected people. The first group is the family of the deceased while the second group are colleagues of the deceased who worked with them”, said the mayor of this municipality, Agim Aliu a few days earlier.
Periscope in the March 16th article had shown that an army of U.S. soldiers who had just landed in Kosovo had been to show in the restaurant called Joseph in the village of Stubble, New Year, a village that would be severely hit by Coronavirus.
Despite Periscop's reporting, besides quarantine of the village, it seems that Kosovo authorities did not see fit to take additional steps to ensure workers working at Bondsteel, or to ask American soldiers through KFOR commander to be quarantined in standard form for 14 days.
Camp “Bundsteel” is currently working with restrictions, but it has not yet found it reasonable to completely cut off the job, even though it had been identified as the origin of some infections in the Ferizaj municipality.
“We have talked to KFOR, started taking steps. Now the civilian staff is working with restrictions, but they have not found it reasonable to stop work as a whole. The military camp works under their jurisdiction and we as a municipality do not have competencies at”, added Mr. Aliu, chairman of the Ferizaj municipality where this base is located.
