Today is International Mine Awareness Day.
The UN estimates that up to 20 thousand people lose their lives, or are disabled annually by landmines, and says at least one fifth of the victims are children.
On 8 December 2005, the General Assembly declared that April 4th of each year will be respected as International Mine Awareness Day and Mine Action Assistance.
According to the UN, the most affected countries are Angola, Cambodia, Afghanistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In our country, too, this day has been marked by various activities in the past years, but the situation with the Coronavirus has left no organization this year.
