The first human test in Europe of an anti - Coronervirus vaccine started in Oxford, Great Britain on Thursday.
Two volunteers were injected during the day, while 800 other people have been recruited for injections, reports the BBC, broadcast ally.net.
Half will receive the Covid-19 vaccine, and half the control vaccine that protects from meningitis but not from the coronary.
Such testing design means that volunteers won't know which vaccine they're taking, even though doctors will be aware.
Alice Granato, one of the two volunteers who took the vaccine, told the BBC: “I am a scientist, so I wanted to try to support the scientific process wherever I can”.
The vaccine was developed in less than three months by a team at Oxford University. Sarah Gilbert, professor of vaccinology at the Jenner Institute, conducted the pre-clinic study.
I personally have a high degree of confidence in this vaccine,” she said.
Prof Gilbert previously said it was “80% safe” that the vaccine would work, but now prefer not to put a figure on it, saying it is “very optimistic” for effective prospects.
