The Democratic Party of Kosovo has taken action and has today distributed hundreds of packages of food and essential to the inhabitants of four municipalities in northern Kosovo.
This humanitarian action of The PDK came days after the leader of this party, Kadri Veselin, visited Albanian citizens who have remained isolated in the north as a result of Serbia's government's decisions by hours of police and quarantine.
Wessel has thanked PDK activists and synothesists who have joined in this humanitarian action.
He has written on his Facebook page that next week the proposal will be approved in the Parliament The PDK for the 320m-euro emergency package to help all citizens and businesses cope with the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
Kadri Wessel's full statement:
During my visit to northern Kosovo municipalities, I saw a painful situation of hundreds of Albanian families who had remained isolated and who were panicking about the situation. On the one hand, they faced the state of emergency imposed by Belgrade in their settlements, and on the other, they saw Kosovo's dismissed government act without any transparency, tacitly and approved the control of the north by Serbia's government.
Furthermore, geographical isolation and the police hour-long impasse imposed by Serbia had made their situation serious, causing lack of food and other basic needs. Therefore, I immediately initiated a voluntary humanitarian organisation with PDK members and sympathies to distribute hundreds of packages packed with food and other essential products to Albanians and four northern municipalities that Pristina government has placed in Belgrade's hands.
Our citizens will never be left without support despite the government being too late to get help at this time of pandemic. Therefore, we have taken the initiative for Tuesday and next week to hold the extraordinary Assembly session to approve the 320m-euro emergency package.
The Kosovo Assembly, which is the most important institution of our democracy because it represents the voice of the people, will not stand by. The package that MPs will adopt will help all categories affected by the situation or more in need. In the meantime, I urge you all to stay at home and stick to your health recommendations. Only united can we overcome this challenge!
