Burim Kelmendi, chief executive of the regional waste company “Cleaning”, in a direct connection to Express, has said that the workers of this company are planning to protest as a result of workers' discontent over not entering the government's emergency package.
Kelmendi has indicated that the company “Cleaning” has 560 field workers in some of Kosovo's cities, who are also caring for maintenance at the time of pandemic.
But the salaries of these workers are at risk, as according to Kelmendi, citizens are not paying their waste bills.
“I have 560 workers on the ground, in Pristina, Podujevo, Gracanica, Fushe Kosovo, Obilic, Lipjan and Drenas. We perform the same services, every day we remove waste, we don't have any method to force citizens to pay the waste, and so the workers' wages are being jeopardised, nor has the government put us in the emergency package”, Kelmendi said.
And for not entering the government's emergency package, Kelmendi has indicated that a protest is being planned by workers over the next week.
We've made every request to get into the emergency package, but we've received no response from any institution. We're in contact with all public and private cleaning companies in Kosovo from next week, we're thinking of making a protest, with cars, not with public health risks, but as these workers get out of work, we're going to make a request to the police to do a protest, so that I don't get in to be radicalized by cutting off services or risking the citizens, Kelmendi has declared.
Meanwhile, it has shown that workers of “Cleaning” do their job even at the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo, where most people affected by coronarys are being treated.
We serve both at the QKUK, and at the Student Center where the quarantine is, but fortunately none of our workers have been affected by Corleone”, Kelmendi said.
