Gene, whose full name was Eugene Merrill Deitch, conducted 13 episodes of animated film for loved children for all “Tomi and Jerry” and others from the series “Popeye”.
Gene worked as a map designer for American aviation before entering the military. After being dismissed for medical reasons, the illustration was later established in Prague from 1959.
His film Munro won the Oscar Academy award for best animated short film in 1960.
It was also nominated for the same price twice in 1964, with films “this is Nudnik” and “How to Avoid a Friendship”. Previously, he had created a serial “, Tom the Frightened”, and with “The Family Tree of Sidney”, where he was co-production, was nominated for an Academy Award in 1958.
During his career, Gene worked as the creative director in Territoons, under “20wth Century Fox”, where he created characters like Elefanti Sidney, Laspsy Gaston, Clint Clobber and Horrible Thompson. He continued to work with “Rembrandt Films” over the 1960s to produce a number of caricatures of “Popeye”, as well as a dozen of “Tomi and Jerryt” for “Metro-Goldyn-Maer”.
