Ten foreign tourists walking into a northern city of India, violating the blocking rules due to the coronary pandemic, were forced to apologize 500 times, the Indian police said today.
India declared a 21-day nationwide stalemate that went into effect on March 25th, where people are allowed to leave their homes only to buy essential items and medicines.
Tourists were from the United States, Australia, Mexico and Israel, and were caught walking along the banks of the Ganges River over the weekend.
On television footage, police officer Vinod Kumar Sharma is seen serving an unusual sentence for tourists.
“Each of them wrote the expression I have not respected the rules of the impasse and therefore apologised 500 times”, the local police official said.
“They are guests of our country, but they constantly violate rules”, he said, adding that there were about 600 tourists in Resikesh, a city known for its spiritual attractions and yoga.
Indian police have turned to unusual ways of dealing with those who break the rules of obstruction, including the intimidation of violators by wearing coronary-shaped helmets.
India, which will extend the deadlock until April 30th, has a total of 9 to 152 cases of coronaryism, including 308 deaths.
