U.S. President Donald Trump announced a $19 billion programme to help American farmers cope with the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic.
“We will implement a $19 billion aid programme for our farmers and our wonderful farmers who must face the consequences of the global pandemic”, the American president said at a daily press conference dedicated to the fight against the epidemic.
Agriculture Minister Sonny Perdue stressed that $16 billion would immediately go to the grasshouses, and the remaining three billion would serve to buy food products that would be distributed to the poor.
Farmers are one of the pillars of support for the White House director, who is demanding a second term.
Paradoxically, the billionaire plunged some of America's agriculture into crisis by starting an expensive trade struggle with China, Beijing responded by targeting these loyal supporters of the president.
