On Friday in the United States, the number of people affected by COVID-19 has exceeded 670 thousand, while another 33,000 have lost their lives as a result of the virus.
On Friday, Chinese state media reported that about 1,300 people who died from Coronavirus in the Chinese town of Wuhan, or half of the total reported, have not been counted in the total number of deaths due to accounting errors. Beijing dismissed claims that behind this there was reason to cover the true number of victims.
Wuhan, the city where the virus first erupted at the end of last year, added 1,290 other figure victims of 2,579 people dead as a result of the virus estimated until Thursday. A working group established by the local government, in charge of controlling the situation, reported the wrong reporting delays or leaving out. Reflecting additional deaths in Wuhan, China revised its national death toll during Friday, which rose to 4,632.
Reviewing the figures follows widespread speculations on large scale that the death toll in Wuhan was evidently higher than reported. Rumours for more victims were prompted for weeks by photos of long lines of family members waiting to collect the ashes of their relatives as well as reports of thousands of vases filled with the ashes of other victims gathered in a funeral home. Suspicions that China has not been transparent over the explosion have increased in recent days as the death toll continues to rise in many countries, including the United States.
President Donald Trump said on Wednesday sceptical of the rate of deaths previously declared by China by about 3,000 people.
China's Foreign Affairs Ministry said reviewing the death figure as a result of the Coronavirus was a matter of historical and public responsibilities, rejecting claims that there had been any attempts to cover the truth.
