Figures from Johns Hopkins University show that 2,108 people died during the last 24 hours, while now there are more than half a million infected people, Kosovo reports.
The US could soon surpass Italy as the country with the highest death toll.
But experts from the Coddy-19 task force at the White House say the spread of the disease is beginning to level throughout the United States.
Dr Deborah Birx said there were good signs as the spread was being stabilised, but warned by saying that even though it is encouraging, the peak has not yet been reached.
President Donald Trump also said he expects the US to have a lower death rate than initial forecasts for 100,000 deaths.
