Wessel: In position or opposition, the state is the same to me

Democratic Party of Kosovo Chairman Kadri Veselini said today at the extraordinary session where the fee is being discussed against Serbia, that Prime Minister Albin Kurti's confrontation with NATO and the United States is weakening Kosovo in proportion to Serbia, still without starting dialogue.

The opposition leader said that the sanctity of these Kosovo relations with decades-built strategic partners, Albin Kurti, is willing to ruin it within days.

Kadri Wessel's full speech:

In January 2019, with a draft document, I have proposed suspending the tax for 120 days to enable the final agreement to reach this period of time. If no agreement was reached, full reciprocity would be returned.

The reason for imposing the tax was legitimate, to protect us from Serbia's aggression against Kosovo.

Even then, as today, the tax was required to be removed with insistence from the United States. It had to do directly with the possibility of reaching agreement between Kosovo and Serbia.

It was and it is a concern of the United States of America that unresolved problems between Kosovo and Serbia are giving Russia an opportunity for influence in Europe. The US has invested in this region and are the highest and most legitimate authority. That's why I proposed a tax suspension then.

So, with this action, Kosovo would defend its interests, restore its international advantage in front of Serbia again, as well as most of its main one would maintain relations with strategic partners, especially with the United States of America.

With the eventual achievement of the agreement, Kosovo would open up the Euro-Atlantic perspective, win the seat at the UN, complete citizenship, and, most importantly, the future generations would be removed from the burden of the past. I have to say that no one in this room, not one party, had supported this proposal of mine and the Democratic Party of Kosovo.

The population and the electoral accounts were everything. It was forgotten that the state is beyond their individual, parties, and whims. Since then, Kosovo and its citizens have lost much.

In addition to the isolation of liberalisation, reports with the United States touched the lowest point. Because of calculations of power and a lack of wise actions.

If you haven't forgotten, so did the demarcation. Today, a year after, Vetevendosje and LDK are demanding nearly the same thing that I had proposed for the tax. What changed? The world or their political position? But why the difference now?

They want to be responsible in front of the country, or are they forced to do so to keep their power at all costs?

I'm afraid that's the morality of this policy. In opposition, they set the country on fire. In power, they appear to be responsible.

The truth is, we all know that the past government has fallen exactly from the tax. Even this government can fall from the tax.

Dear citizens,

When I had institutional responsibility, I took a clear stand for suspending the tax.

Even today, when I am in opposition, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and I have the same attitude.

I don't intend to change, regardless of the position of being in power or opposition.

And that's a huge difference between me and those who have power today. It's a big difference between me and them how we understand responsibility for the State, our citizen. In position, or opposition, the state is the same to me. The tax was and can be of interest only when it opposes the aggressiveness of the Serbian state. It wasn't and it's not against the Serbs. And, never against the United States of America and our Western friends. In recent days, we are looking at the scenes of this coalition for tax removal. Even today, citizens are not honest with them. One side requires immediate tax removal, while the other side requires partial removal. These behaviors, in fact, have shades of hypocrisy.

The truth is, they should either listen to the United States or prepare for the loss of power. There's no halfway.

Dialogue with Serbia is the most abused topic in our policy-making. It's become the refuge of any political folly.

The biggest scars and the most severe punishments have taken place on this subject.

And, Vetevendosje, as the opposition, was specialising in this manipulation.

Today, with just a few weeks of power, its leader is giving the reputation of constantly changing attitudes. Even the biggest skeptics would not have expected this leap.

But his self-decision, which is fate, is even a danger to citizens and the state. It's lucky, because such false causes, which have isolated the country and tired the citizen, are being pierced with ease and speed.

It is dangerous, because with such an unstable prime minister, Kosovo in the challenges ahead may lose what it has achieved so far.

But I don't want to talk about his past today, which is full of big promises, brutally violated, or his diet of principles. His conversion is from one of the faithless to another. It is his affair, after all. And his political morality. Of his unstable personality. And a man who used to accuse others of treason is also constantly betraying himself today.

Today, I don't want to deal with this at all! Because, the encounter he's about to have with the citizens he's cheating and cheating.

In the end, they will write political diagnosis. I don't even want to talk about his present, which is completely unclear. But what I care about is the future.

The future of the state of Kosovo, which is uncertain and endangered with this coalition and with Albin Kurtin prime minister. Being unpredictable in his political actions, fear of the damage he can do to the country, when the time of the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia comes, is inevitable.

Our major concern, which opens many questions about the approach of the unstable prime minister, is serious!

Because his morning stays aren't those in the afternoon. Because her faith has been shattered. On his credit.

How will he react to the meeting with Serbia? How will he react to Zajednica signed by his current partner? Does it mean in the morning that it is unacceptable as in the evening to accept it, as taught by his conduct during the past few months?

Who will he partner with, as Kosovo prime minister in the confrontation with hostile Serbia?

His confrontational approach with NATO and the United States of America is weakening Kosovo in relation to Serbia, yet the dialogue begins.

The sanctity of these decades-built Kosovo relations, Albin Kurti, is willing to tear it down within days. Even installing the anti-American spirit of our citizens, he is bringing to Kosovo the greatest possible danger that Serbia could not do. But we won't let that happen. As we will not allow Kosovo's collapse in front of Serbia. Where we appreciate that the future of this state, the general interest of this state, is at stake, the Democratic Party of Kosovo will act as it has always acted, will protect the interest of citizens and the state beyond party policies. Kosovo's partnerships with the United States are more than ever necessary. Kosovo institutions must light themselves up quickly and such manipulations, which have weakened the state, have stabilised and isolated it, must end. What's happening to these rulers today is an example of how none of us should treat our country.

Possies and opposition have an obligation to advance the state. We as opposition will act within our responsibilities. And, as power, you take the responsibilities that belong to you, make the right decisions, keep your words, and don't harm the state.
