EC rapporteur for Kosovo: Remove Tax

Beyer stressed that the removal of tariffs set by Kosovo for goods from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina should also be done unconditionally, as required by Germany, the United States of America and others.

As for that part of the Council of Europe is Russia, which is an unassailable supporter of Serbia, and at the same time hinders Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe, rapporteur for Kosovo in the Council of Europe, Peter Beyer, in an exclusive interview for Telegrafi, has stressed that, in a similar way, all member states of the Council of Europe, have rights and obligations, and need to treat each other in a just manner, and that I expect and also ask from Russia and Serbia, as well as from the future member of Kosovo.

Meanwhile, regarding previous discussions by several regional leaders, on the rock proposal of territories between Kosovo and Serbia, Beyer made it clear that “Germania and I personally oppose the proposed idea for exchange of land, or exchange of territories, and we will not support any plans to realise it”.

My task as a rapporteur is to locate facts and send messages from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, (PACE), as with regard to the Council of Europe's main objectives, i.e. trying to rule the law, democracy and human rights. I am confident that I am able to lead a number of constructive discussions, and I believe that the Government of Kosovo is capable and willing to fulfill its duties on the road to full membership in the European Union”.

According to him, Serbia and Kosovo should take steps towards each other. Dialogue must resume as soon as possible, without conditions. “That means, that no country should set preconditions before talks begin again. When it comes to the concept of reciprocity, for example, the removal of tariffs imposed by Kosovo on goods from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina should be lifted unconditionally, as required by Germany, the United States of America and others. Everybody needs to understand that. It's not time to serve someone's clientele, it's about doing what's best for someone's country. Both parties must do their homework. I am confident that Kosovo and Serbia will find a practical and careful way to move the process forward soon”.
