“As the opposition, in principle, we support the motion of no confidence in the government, but that doesn't mean that we will change course and current political status”, Wessel has indicated.
Full statement by PDK leader Kadri Wessel:
Honored citizens of the Republic of Kosovo,
For good reason, citizens are becoming irritated by politics in Kosovo.
The example that argues is the latest actions of the partners of this ruling coalition.
At the time of a collective anxiety confronting the pandemic, when our families are concerned about each other's fate, lose reason and create a crisis of personal and party interests, is more than institutional responsibility.
It's a fundamental lack of human responsibility.
While mutual blames for political benefits, under these serious circumstances, are doubling the crisis, which citizens of SUU owe.
It's national damage.
The blame and responsibility are completely solely of this ruling coalition.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo, and neither I, have either helped or caused, no action, this situation.
You know that.
I want to make it clear once more: we're not part of any such scenario.
I have announced the opposition, just hours after the 6 October election closure. Opposition for four years.
I have respected the will of a citizen. And I've given space to parties that have won to create Government as soon as possible.
Now, we have a completely unexpected situation, created by the ruling coalition itself.
Dear citizens,
As the opposition, from the first day, we raised a disturbing voice, but also offered alternatives and readiness to overcome any situation we've faced.
The challenges ahead, we all knew. Nothing has been unexpected and indicted, for each of us, even before the elections. Except for the coronavirus pandemic.
COVIDD-19's appearance has raised challenges and would have to increase government responsibility.
To cope with this pandemic as easily as possible, we all know it takes courage, effective management, and the necessity for cooperation.
At this time of pandemic, even though more delays, what was demanded by the government was supported and respected by Kosovo citizens.
It was supported by us as opposition.
They had the opportunity and had no obstacle.
The entrepreneurs began shutting down businesses, began to respect the advice of institutions.
But at the very height of the isolation and deadlock of citizens' lives, politics also created a crisis. Another panic!
Political war became a primary agenda, instead of fighting the common enemy the virus that is attacking humanity.
Citizen sorrows were not considered.
Neither financial sacrifice nor paralyzing the entire economy.
In a word, citizens were responsible, even with their own losses and fears, and this Government was irresponsible to them.
Today, there are no citizens in the Republic of Kosovo who are not revolting with politics.
I have to tell you, I'm not happy about our situation either.
But, there is a huge difference between the PDK as opposition and the government coalition. They caused the crisis.
We politicians have taken citizen trust. And in times of crisis, this belief of party needs should not be abused.
Kosovo and its citizens are the reason and purpose why we are in politics. And so it should be for everyone.
But right now, at this time of confusion, fear, paralyzing the life of the citizen is causing the collapse of the Government.
And this provocation and this crisis is coming, not from us opposition, but from coalition partners themselves!
As an opposition, we have been willing to give support where we would appreciate that it is positive for the country's interest.
I am sorry that no sincere help was ever asked, because I would give it to the good of the Republic of Kosovo.
My criticisms have been aimed at signalling clearly to the danger Kosovo was taking from the way our strategic ally, the United States of America, handled by the current prime minister.
At the most sensitive time for Kosovo, the government instead of regaining its wounded relations with the United States, it instead promoted and orchestrated an anti-American spirit through deliberate neglect of American recommendations and through controversial discours of division against the US through party militants.
In this country, with our tragic past and the history of American intervention that saved our people, never should have become this subject.
But the ruling prime minister did so.
The prime minister had to refrain from talking about the matter at all but acting. He could easily and well, for state and national interest, without having to hit anyone in his way.
Dear citizens,
This break-up from responsibility, institutional and moral, and this self-submission of the prime minister, by his actions provoking the no-confidence motion, is shameful. Because it is happening at the very time when it would have to work for unity and cooperation, not for divisions and division.
So he himself is sealing his political destiny as Prime Minister, along with his partner, with whom he promised so much and did nothing for nearly two months of government.
This is the act of self-resolving the prime minister and his government indiscriminately, in the face of the challenges our country has.
This escape, in such form, is unworthy.
Because you don't leave when you have to fight for your people.
But, obviously, running away is what this Prime Minister can do best.
So there couldn't be another end to a Government and a Prime Minister, who in such a short time took the most vital alliance for Kosovo, who failed to provide a development programme for citizens' expectations and who created so much contradiction within themselves for a short period.
Personally, I didn't want to leave like this. This way of leaving is not his end, but maybe it's his deserved end. Maybe even his own wanted and calculated ending.
I don't know what government could be more harmful than this current one for the country, but I assure citizens and PDK voters that we will not be part of any calculator that is reduced to power.
I have made it clear, since 6 October, that the PDK will stay in opposition and that we will work hard to push ahead with any agenda that is in the interest of the citizens of the country.
The PDK is the leader of the political opposition and will submit only to demands that are in the interest of the Republic of Kosovo and its citizens.
Our decisions and actions will be in line with civic, state and national requirements and needs.
As opposition, in principle, we support the motion of no confidence in the government, but that doesn't mean we will change course and current political status.
Under normal circumstances, we would look for early elections. But with pandemic here we know this is currently impossible.
In the face of developments in the coming days, we will make other necessary decisions.
But the PDK's decisions on this situation and subsequent situations will always maintain our national strategic interest and create security and future for our citizens and the state.
Even at this time of uncertainty, caused by the ruling coalition partners' games, I invite citizens to feel safe in their homes and in their country.
Touched by the COVIID-19 virus, I want quick healing and thank all health personnel, public security and administration, for the hard work and sacrifice they are making.
