mosque activities are not banned

The Islamic Community of Kosovo and the Catholic Church in Kosovo have not made the decision to cancel the observance of religious rituals in mosques and churches, where large numbers of believers participate.

Kosovo mufti Naim Ternava, asked by telephone whether he will stop performing rituals in the mosque as a preventive measure for the spread of corruption, has suggested that we refer to the communique released yesterday.

This communiqué requires imams to keep the hytbe customs class at a maximum of 10 minutes rather than to cancel, although the possibility of another decision is open.

“Support all measures taken by the Government of Kosovo for Coronobrus protection. BIK will carefully submit the situation and in time make the right decisions in our religious-education institutions. We're asking our imams to keep the vestibly brief, 10 minutes maximum, and to be dedicated only to the protection measures from this challenge facing humanity”, the communiqué says.

Neither has the Catholic Church in Kosovo made a decision to cancel Mass.

Bishop's spokesman Fatmir Koliqi, in a written reply, says the Mass will not be cancelled for now.

Now the Mass is not canceled. In the future we will act according to new circumstances”, he said.

The Catholic Church has called on all believers to act on instructions from Kosovo health institutions.

While there is no case with Coronavirus in Kosovo so far, the Kosovo government has taken a series of preventative measures in place of protection against this virus. There are 11 precautionary measures which have been voted by the Government, including the interruption of the teaching process until March 27th.
