The prime minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has sent letters to US President Donald Trump as well as to Secretary of State Mike Pompeii.
This has been made known through a media announcement from the prime minister's office.
In Kurti's letter, reportedly beginning on March 15th, we will begin removing tariffs for goods from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which have been imposed by the past government.
My government and I are committed to resolving the remaining issues between the Republic of Kosovo and Serbia. We remain convinced that this must be done within the process of dialogue, which would culminate with mutual recognition of the two states. We believe this is the important way for Kosovo's integration into the international community and the achievement of a historic agreement that would create sustainable peace, stability and security in the Balkans.
This way, starting on March 15th, we will start removing tariffs for goods from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which are imposed by the previous government. First of all, the first class fees will be removed. We do this as an expression of good diplomatic gesture and as a sign of our commitment to working close to the United States in dialogue with Serbia. We hope that our actions will return with reciprocity from Belgrade, from which we expect to remove all non-tariff barriers to trade with Kosovo, as well as to stop the campaign for Kosovo's recognitions. We also invite the United States and the European Union to create monitoring and sanctioning mechanisms to ensure that the two sides adhere to commitments made during current agreements as well as those in the future”.
