Turkey's President Recep Tayip Erdogan called on Greece today to open the door to migrants for whom official Ankara has opened its borders.
He urged Greece to allow them to move to other EU countries.
Greece, I invite you: And open up your borders and leave that burden. Let them go to other European countries,”, Erdogan said in a speech in Istanbul.
He has announced he will go to Brussels tomorrow to discuss the issue of migrants with EU officials, and voiced hope that he will return from Belgium with “different results”.
The situation between Turkey and the EU has been extremely tense since Turkey announced it is opening borders for migrants on its territory and letting them go to the EU.
Tens of thousands of migrants have gathered at the Greco-Turkish border, trying to overcome it and move towards the EU.
