After weeks of denial by officials in Damascus, Syria, the first case has already been confirmed with Covid-19, as fear of an explosion that could have catastrophic consequences for the war - torn country.
The patient was a 20-year-old who had recently returned from Syria from a foreign country, and already needed measures were taken according to Health Minister Nizar Yazij, Periscopi notes.
This report came several weeks after the regime rejected claims by the Syrian opposition that Iran-backed fighters and the sheik pilgrims had already brought the Coronavirus to Syria, and reports by health workers also said that in the capital some patients had had consistent symptoms with Covid-19.
Nine years of fighting has destroyed Syria's infrastructure, economy and the health system.
The WTO estimates that Syria's fragile health system may not have the capacity to detect and respond to” pandemic. /Periscope
